we found rudy's touring service on trip advisor before we went to italy. i was impressed by the amount of 5 star reviews! i wrote to rudy and received a reply the next day. he was very good about answering questions and getting back to me with all the information. i arranged to have a 8 hour day tour of rome. there were 5 adults. my husband, myself and my three daughters all in their 20's. we were met at our hotel promptly by lucca one of rudy's tour guides. we enjoyed spending the day with lucca. he was very informative and knowledgable about all things italian.. not only ruins and museums! he took one of the best family pictures we have from our trip in front of the coloseum. we especially enjoyed his tour of the vatican. he actually spent an extra hourwith us because he wanted to make sure we saw everything in the vatican i had asked about! lucca really made sure he had us see everything we asked him to show us! he was great! i know there are alot of tours in rome. i also know i took the advice of other trip advisor friends when i booked this! i can assure you, you will not be disappointed in the quality of rudy's tours. without a guide, you can walk by everything and not know what you are looking at or its significance. it was worth every penny! enjoy rome.. it is amazing!

Recently, I hired Rudy to give us a tour of Rome, during our one day in port in Civitavecchia . Early that morning and on time, he picked us up at the ship and proceeded to show us Rome, like we could never see on our own. Using his knowledge and significant driving skills down the narrow streets and near the crowded attractions, Rudy not only allowed us to see all the sights, we had wanted to see, but gave us the history so we could better appreciate what we were seeing. At lunch time he brought us to a family restaurant which served us a wonderful multi-course Italian lunch. He then drove us back to the ship, exhausted from everything we had seen, but fully satisfied that we had got our money's worth. The four of us agreed that Rudy's tour was the highlight of our cruise.
If you have just one day in Rome, hire Rudy to show you the sights because with the distance between the sights and the crowds, you will never be able to see as much, on your own.
Thank you Rudy, for a great day!

Rudy's team is very professional, prompt, knowledgeable, fun, and worth every cent. His vehicles are very clean and comfortable and they are all excellent drivers. Rudy and his team are very well versed in the history of Italy all being local natives. They made our tours very relaxing and enjoyable and went the extra mile to make sure we were pleased with our trip. If you are visiting the Rome or Florence area, especially for the first time, do not hesitate to contact Rudy's Touring Service - it will be an unforgettable trip.

My husband and I booked 4 private day tours with Rudy. The Vatican and Ancient Rome, Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast, Tuscany and Tivoli. Each one exceeded our expectations. His knowledge of the history and art combined with his enthusiasm was amazing. We saw and learned more with Rudy than we ever could on our own. He has a very caring nature even apologizing for the rain in Florence. The restaurants we went to were also amazing. Not tourist traps but local restaurants with delicious food and wonderful people. On our trip to Tivoli we were with his associate Luca who was also wonderful and knowledgeable. When we return to Italy in the future we again will call on Rudy. We were not treated like clients. We were treated like family.

Rudy, Mom and Max at the Vatican
Rudy came highly recommended so I felt pretty confident we would be happy with his service. He exceeded all my expectations. He was prompt, very knowledgeable about the history of Rome and his English was perfect. He really did his best to make our vacation to Rome and Florence memorable. His passion and love for his city was apparent. He arranged two authentic Italian multi-course meals that were the best meals we had the whole trip! The guides he introduced us to at the Catacombs, the Vatican and Pompeii were also exceptionally good. We learned so much history.
I arranged a trip to Positano and the Amalfi Coast one day. Our guide was Manuele. He was also fabulous. So handsome and a pleasure to get to know. Although the weather didn't cooperate,we still had a great time. We had lunch at DaConstantino's in Positano. Luigi treated us like we were family. Another delicious meal with an incredible view of Positano! We toured a winery in Tuscany named Tenuta Torciano and had a beautiful countryside tour of Sienna and SanGimignano with Rudy's associate Daniel. This was also a great day with such beautiful scenery.
Rest assured Rudy's service was very reasonable and money well spent. Thanks again, Rudy, Manuele and Daniel. I will think of you all when I think of Italy!

My daughter (age 20) and myself toured the Amalfi Coast with Rudy. Rudy is extremely knowledgeable, friendly and attentive and is an extremely professional tour guide. He had detailed stories about the entire coastline including Pompeii, Sorrento and Positano. He has knowledge in the arts, habits, history and traditions of everything to do with Rome. Without Rudy, the Amalfi Coast would still be beautiful to look at, but with Rudy we learned about all of the attractions and points of interest as well as interesting insights that only a true local could give us. You really get to enjoy the beauty when you leave the driving to a professional. Rudy also recommended a fantastic lunch spot right on the beach in Positano. After we had finished our tour my daughter said, "I feel so smart! That was great!" Great Day- A+ for sure! Feel so lucky that we booked this tour.

Steep? Maybe a little!
Rudy is wonderful. Wonderful driver, wonderful guide, wonderful human being. From the pre-trip contact through to the return to our apartment in Rome, Rudy was an absolute gentleman. I was travelling with my parents and my father is limited to a wheelchair/scooter for anything but very short distances. Rudy was honest about issues we might face, however was determined that we should try and see everything we could.
Prior to our visit, we contacted many tour companies but only Rudy was positive and encouraging in his response. Several told me flat out that we could not tackle Tivoli and Hadrian's Villa with anyone with mobility needs. Coach companies refused to consider it. Rudy made it all happen without the vaguest impression of inconvenience.
He collected us from our central Rome apartment and got the scooter in his lovely people carrier with no fuss at all. Off we went to Tivoli with a steady conversation about driving, Italy's tax and salary system, umbrella trees and all sorts of other things. On arrival at Tivoli, where Rudy had booked the mobility golf buggy for us, it was too wet to use it. Undeterred we toured the villa itself and then, due to the weather improving, were able to tackle the gardens as well! I must confess I thought perhaps we had bitten off more than we could chew but with Rudy's uncomplaining support (and my father's very powerful scooter!) we did a great job of seeing the various fountains, including being spot on time for the organ fountain.
We then headed to Hadrian's Villa and again, Rudy's knowledge and support got us to everything we could reasonably get to with no difficulty. He dealt with the tickets and also getting closer to the Villa by car than would usually be possible (bring your disabled identification/permit if possible!).
There is no way I could have undertaken this daytrip for my parents without this kind of support. It was an amazing day and perhaps the highlight of our trip to Rome. It was a beautiful day once the weather had cleared, and we have the most fond memories of Rudy and all we saw.
We were caught in traffic coming back but Rudy was very concerned about the daily rate and a fare charge.
We were delighted with the entire service - thank you so much Rudy, and apologies for the delay in posting a review for you!

In just one day we saw everything from the Colluseum, the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain and the Catacombs (underground cemetaries) to the Sistine Chapel! We booked Rudy for a full day tour in Rome on January 21st for a party of 9 and our experience was fantastic. We were given two new Mercedes vans that were very comfortable and we spent the next 8 hours touring all the highlights that Rome offers. Rudy & Company were friendly, knowledgeable, courteous and efficient at bringing us around and making sure we saw all that we wanted. I think it would have taken three days to see what we saw in one if we had tried it ourselves. Both of our guides spoke English extremely well and we focused on trying to make our day memorable and fun. Our 5 children were excited at what they learned and saw-- thank you Rudy for making our day one to never forget. My husband and I booked a last minute trip to Rome in mid November and were very keen to visit the Amalfi Coast. We discovered that almost all organised group tours stop visiting this region in November so after reading such good reviews about Rudy we decided to book a private day tour. We cannot speak highly enough of our fanastic day with Rudy. He arrived promptly at our hotel first thing in the morning and was extremely informative and friendly. My husband and I were interested in seeing things a bit off the beaten track and all of our needs were catered for. The car was wonderful and spacious and the scenery to die for! Our day was complete with Rudy taking us to a wonderful cliff-side restaurant overlooking positano, where we ate the best authenic italian pasta that we have ever had! This day turned out to be the absolute favourite of our trip!

Our full-day tour of Rome with Rudy as our guide was the most perfect way to end our vacation, which began with a 10-day Celebrity cruise from and back to Civitevecchia with stops in between at ports in Sicily, the Greek Isles, Athens, and Ephesus. When we met with Rudy, we were quite literally exhausted from the excursions and pace of the 10-day adventure. So, Rudy’s attention to balancing our needs for comfort and ease, while at the same time taking in as much of Rome in our full-day with him, was what made our experience memorable, enjoyable and thoroughly one we would engage in again.
Our day began with Rudy’s promptly picking us up at the port and then being treated to a ride to Rome filled with relaxing conversation about Rome, Italy, the countryside—whatever we happened to bring up—like we might have had with a friend. We were treated to Rudy’s gracious hospitality at an espresso bar that perfectly set the tenor for the rest of the day. Rudy paced our day effortlessly, consciously orchestrating our personal needs with the stops we made. Rudy’s relationships with restaurateurs and shop-keepers facilitated rapid service for lunch and safe passage and parking, which was definitely an issue for us, since we had all our baggage in his car for the entire day (Check-in at our hotel was 3PM and he dropped us off at the end of the day so we didn’t waste precious daytime hours.)
Rudy has an exceptional depth and breadth of knowledge about Rome’s history, ancient sites, art and architecture, local color, politics—you name it—and our day was a treasure of anecdotes and stories about Rome and the important personalities that left their marks on the city throughout the ages. Rudy generously accommodated our desire to incorporate a visit to the Catacombs which was not standard for his full-day tour and for that we’re most grateful. Rudy seamlessly balanced our needs for site-seeing and picture-taking with traversing Rome from East to West, North to South. His flexibility, efficiency and ingenuity navigating the traffic and tight spaces, the entrances to the Coliseum and Vatican Museum, and many other hard-to-access-spots (because of limited parking) allowed us to visit so many more sites than we might have been able to on our own or with a tour in 3 or 4 days’ time.
Our experience in Rome with Rudy was an exceptional value and we highly recommend it to other travelers.

My wife, adult daughter, and I took 5 private day tours with Rudy during our 10-day stay in Rome: ancient Rome, the Amalfi Coast, the Vatican, Umbria, and Tuscany. All of them were fabulous. Rudy clearly loves his job and his enthusiasm infects everyone who tours with him.
At a comfortable pace, we saw more in 5 day tours than we could have seen in a month of independent travel. Rudy knows the back roads and back stories, he knows the best family-run restaurants, and ours days were filled with dozens of his large and small kindnesses from making the tours as accessible as possible for my disabled wife to modifying the tour agenda to meet our special interests.
In summary, Rudy is an exceptional tour guide and I recommend him wholeheartedly.

This was my second time using Rudy as a guide in Rome. We had happened upon his services last year but I didn't get his card. I was so happy with his services that I searched through tripadvisor unitl I could find him again! He is THAT good !!!! He is a twelth generation Roman that knows the city intimately. He loves his work and it shows. I have been to Rome five times. Rudy has shown me more in the days I have toured with him then all my trips combined. You will see all the sights while he explains the history, the art and shows you many places the usual tourist does not see. Not only did we see the ancient sites, Vatican Museums, St. Peter's and Catacombs but also numerous places of which I was totally unaware. We saw St. Peter's in Chains basilica with Michaelangelo's Moses, St Mary Major basilca with the manger of the Christ child, San Clemente with its fascinating underground pagan ruins, etc., etc. The list goes on and on. Not only is he knowledgable but couteous, polite, patient and always on time. I am so pleased with Rudy I plan to use his services again next year when I return to Rome. I can hardly wait to see what he shows me next time!!!

We had booked Rudy for 3 days during the memorial day weekend. He was at the airport on time, very helpful with luggage, and a clean, comfortable mercedez van. He is very knowledgeable, and resourceful, and went out of his way to help us push a special child's wheelchair at multiple places, including over cobbled paths and steep slopes. He was always accomodating requests to stop at the grocery store, take us souvenir shoppin etc, and knew a whole lot of information that locals only know, to make the most of our trip. So thanks to Rudy and his partner Fabio, we saw Ostia Antica, Villa D'Este, The vatican complex incl. Sistine chapel, St Peters, (and even mass the next day ), the coliseum, the forum, the catacombs, and finished off with a trip to the piazza navona, all in 3 days ! Excellent, would recommend with out any hesitation, and give him a 10/10 !!

Having only discovered Rudy on a google search , not having known about the tripadvisor site, we were delighted to see him waiting for us on the pier. We were 15 minutes early but Rudy was already there waiting for us. While the other ship's passengers were climbing aboard their various tour coaches, we were off to Rome.
Of course there was plenty of traffic for Rudy to deal with but his knowledge of the route had us arriving in the centre of Rome well ahead of tour coaches. His first stop was to get us to the Colosseum, where he was able to get us to purchase entry tickets at a booth rarely used which saved time in queueing. All the other attractions that we wished to see were available, thanks to Rudy's motor skills. The various back streets that he managed to squeeze through added to the visit of The Eternal City.
We were able to stop by The Spanish Steps and had a wonderful view in front of "The Wedding Cake".Parking so close to the Trevi left us with only a 100 yards walk, where we had time to revel with all the other visitors to the fountain and take our photos at this
beautiful monument. Next to the Palatine hill where we had a look down onto the Circus Maximus. Although the site had been taken over for an armed forces display, we could still appreciate what happened at this venue all those years ago. Internal visits at The Pantheon, The Vatican Museum with Sistine Chapel and The Basilica of St. Peter were
enhanced by the information given by Rudy. Sitting in the vehicle,he was able to advise us of the detail of the Sistine Chapel by showing us a large print of the ceiling, before we entered the Chapel. This made us more appreciative in understanding the various segments of the ceiling.
We were lucky to have had the services of Rudy, whose great love of Rome and it's history and architecture was apparent in all the answers to our questions. There is no doubt that a tour by coach would not have given us the scope to see and hear about all that we were fortunate to visit.
Any one that like us who have been on a tour by coach, will know that you can't always hear what the guides say, even if you are able to walk at the same pace as them.
TAKE OUR ADVICE, TAKE A RUDY TOUR.

Day 1 O.K., making plans for three days of touring Italy from a website can be nerve wracking and kind of crazy. The cruise ship provides great tours, right? OMG!!! if you are going to Italy you must use Tours by Rudy. My husband contacted Rudy by email. They communicated by email making all the arrangements. Our party of six got off the ship in Naples and wondered if these tours would all really happen. What were we worried about? There was Sergio with a sign in his hands!!!! Just waiting for us. We boarded our lovely mini van and headed for Positano, Sorrento, and Pompeii. This man was a wonderful driver!!!! He not only had skill but knowledge of the country. We went to a lovely family restaurant in Positano and had the lunch of a life time. Sergio got us a guide in Pompeii, Franco. I would recommend this I cannot imagine wandering around and wondering what happened. This day could not be beat.....or could it?
Day 2 We were met again right after we got off the ship, by Max...smoking hot Max!! We hopped in our Mercedes mini van and headed for Rome. We arrived at the collesum , dropped off right at the front door, we spent about 1 hour soaking up the history. We met Max and were off to the Pantheon...Uh Oh, demonstrators in Rome had shut down the city and we could not go where we intended. Max was frustrated and tried everything to stay on track so we could see everything. We did manage to see the Spanish steps, walked around the Trevi fountain and had a lovely lunch, best mozzarella ever!! Rudy had instructed us to by tickets to the Vatican and Max would be our guide. We were delayed by the strike but Max got us there just in time!! The vatican was wonderful, hint: seeing the Vatican takes at least 90 minutes just to walk at a brisk pace, it was a lot of walking and stairs for my in-laws. Max was instrumental in helping me find a souvenir....a Popener!! He really felt bad we had a limited sight seeing day. Rudy met us at the ship an apologized profusely.
Day 3- Daniel met us as planned at the ship. Again a lovely minivan. Daniel was very informative and was absolutely wonderful. Daniel took us to Pisa first to avoid all the tourist....it worked. Pisa was beautiful and more than I expected. He parked just beyond the leaning tower so when we walked about 50 feet and turned the corner we saw all of Pisa and it was breathtaking! Off to Florence, Daniel told us about all we would see. We had a photo op on the top of the hill overlooking Florence, Wow! On to the Acadamy to see David then on to the Duomo, another OMG moment. We spent some time and had lunch in Florence, careful, it is touristy and expense. A cup of gelato was 12 Euros! Ask the guide where to go. We had pizza for lunch and it was great. Daniel was a joy. He took us home thru the Tuscan valley which was spellbinding. We stopped for pictures. The vinyards and quaint homes were a feast to my eyes.
I can honestly say finding Rudy's tour company was on of the best things we did for ourselves. Again , the large buses that the ship used were to big to go down any street. The tourist's had to be dropped off a the top of the city which meant a lot of walking. We had very little walking, the guides were always concerned for and looked out for my mother in law and really wanted us to have the best experience we could, and we did.

A group of five (including myself) utilized Rudy's Touring Service from October 28-30, 2009 to tour the Amalfi coast, Rome/Vatican City, and Florence/Pisa. We arrived via cruise ship and Rudy had one of his associates meet us at each port in a late model Mercedes van.
We met Rudy's associate Sergio at the Naples port and he took us to Sorrento, Positano, and Pisa. The Amalfi coast is absolutely gorgeous and I think all five of us would like to go back to Positano for a longer visit sometime in the near future. Sergio had a plethora of knowledge about this area. He also took us to the most picturesque family style restaurant for lunch. In Pisa, Sergio secured a private walking guide which greatly enriched our experience.
Rudy's associate Roberto met us at the Civitavecchia port and promptly drove us to Rome. Roberto was absolutely fabulous and extremely knowledgeable about the history of the city. It was wonderful to be able to visit the sites with the history that he provided us in mind. At the Colosseum, Roberto assured that we did not have to wait in the long line to enter. We were able to immediately go to the front of the line and enter the site. As in the Amalfi coast, Roberto took us to a family style restaurant for lunch that was absolutely wonderful, and not too expensive! After lunch, Roberto took us to Vatican City where he secured us a private tour. One could spend days in the Vatican museum; however, the tour guide gave us the highlights. The tour guide, who I believe was Roberto's wife, was excellent and very knowledgeable.
At the Livorno port, we were greeted by Rudy's associate, Daniele. Daniele drove us through Tuscany to visit Pisa. After Pisa, we went straight to Florence. While in Florence, we had the opportunity to visit many museums, including the Accadamia gallery to see Michaelangelo's David. We also had time to do some shopping. Daniele was a pleasure.
We had a great experience utilizing Rudy's Touring Service and would highly recommend this service for tours of Italy. The touring service was first-class especially as compared to other services. We utilzed the cruise ship's excursion service for one day of our trip (outside of Italy), and let me tell you there is no comparison to Rudy's Touring Service. The cruise line's excursion was impersonal, lacked history regarding the sites we visited, and did not allow for free time to explore the sites. What you get with Rudy's Touring Service is personalized service, attention to details, and extremely knowledgeable driver guides. Additionally, with Rudy, you have the liberty of planning your day however you like it and can spend as much or as little time in any particular area.
Our group of five was very happy with our choice in utilizing Rudy's Touring Service.

After reading several rave reviews on Trip Advisor and Cruise Critic, I contacted Rudy's Touring Service to arrange a private tour of Rome for my husband & myself and our two friends on our port stop in Rome. What a great decision!!
Rudy met us at the pier holding our sign and led us to his very comfortable mini-van. The day began with a lovely chat more than a history lesson on Rome and Italy and why he loved it so much. His english was excellent and blended and with his Italian accent and quick smile, he was a everything one could want in a tour guide - knowledgeable, personable and accommodating.
We visited all the highlights of Rome (the Circus max, Colosseum, Wedding Cake, Pantheon, Trevi fountain, Spanish steps, St. Peter Basilica, catacombs, etc.) and were enlightened on much of the history and stories of many of these and other places. Some of the best fun, however, was driving through the backstreets & alleys to avoid traffic and dodge a "surprise" protest by the policia workers!
Our request for a nice lunch, with wine & conversation, however was unsurpassed. He shared one of his favourite spots with us - a lovely indoor/outdoor restaurant near the Appian Way where we enjoyed a leisurely lunch on a gorgeous day.
I cannot imagine returning to Rome without seeing Rudy and using his services again. He rates an 11 out of 10!

My wife and I along with 2 other couples just completed a 12 day cruise out of/and returning to Rome. Before heading back to the states, we stayed 2 extra days in Rome, and employed the services of Rudy's Touring Service to guide us around the city. It was the HIGHLIGHT of our trip. We were recommended by friends of a friend of Rudy's Touring Service that they had used months earlier, and it certainly was an experience to remember. Luca, our driver, was the most knowledgeable, professional, and personable guide for our group, with not only seeing the key sights of Rome, but his timing to get us to certain attractions at key moments (the Pope services on Wednesday, the cannon going off at 12 noon at hilltop monument over looking Rome) was most enjoyable. In addition, we were able to tailor our tour based on our priorities and timing, including eating at some great Italian restaurants. The selection of some local Italian cruisine was EXCELLENT. My thanks to Rudy's Touring Service and driver Luca for capping a trip of a lifetime. I would HIGHLY recommend Rudy's to anyone visiting Italy.

At the Collesium with Rudy!
I had discovered Rudy through tripadvisor.com, and read the couple of reveiws of him. My wife and I were planning a short stay in Rome, and wanted to hire a guide/driver to make the most of our experience. Rudy confimred with us several times via email, gave us exceelent advice prior to our trip where to purchase advance tickets to the Vatican (plus one for Rudy), and called us at the hotel, the evening before to re-confirm our plans for the next day. In addition, Rudy also arranged last minute very expediant car service from FCO to our hotel upon our arrival.
Rudy toured us for two days. He was extremely knowledgeable, prompt, and courteous. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with him at the various sites, and just visiting with him during our drives in between.
Rudy has taken many studies in the area of ancient Roman culture and civilization. We toured many of the major sites in Rome, never having to stand in line, including the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's. The next day Rudy toured us in Tivoli, at the Villa d'este and Hadrians Villa, both of which were fascinating.
With the detail that Rudy provides, both historical and current, you fell immersed in, and a living part of the ruins or site.
Rudy also arranged for a fabulous guide for us in Pompeii, who spoke excellent English, and also was very knowledgeable about the ruins!!
We would enthusiastically recommend Rudy for any of your touring needs in and around Rome, Tuscany and the Napoli region.
Than you Rudy for your expertise, your vigilent concern for our well-being and your friendship!

We just got back from our Med Cruise and we all had a fab time. We chose Rudy's touring service because of the glowing reviews here in Tripadvisor. I was a tad disappointed that it wasn't Rudy himself who toured us around Rome, but Antonello and Max, our two driver guides were great. I did appreciate that Rudy, despite not being with is, called us at the end of the tour to ask how it went.
Anyway, because of the sheer number of tourists docked in the Civitevecchia port that day, we experienced a lot of traffic from the port and within Rome. In the end, we had but 6 hours to see all the sights. Our two drivers were able to take us to all the major sights (with a few bathroom breaks here and there) during that time! The Colleseum, the Roman Forums (with a great view of all the ruins!), Ceasar's Palace, the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, and the Vatican museum (for abour 2.5 hours)! We were all exhausted at the end of the day, but equally amazed at how much we covered with such little time! We even managed to get some lunch (great paninis) somewere in between all the flurry.
Inside the Vatican, Rudy arranged for a private guide. We met Andrea just before entering the musuem. He was just wonderful! Very, very knowledgeable, passionate, and sincere. My uncle was in a wheel chair, and despite the obvious challenges, Andrea was able to weave his way through the crowds and take short cuts other tourists couldn't take. He was very conscious of the time and keeping everyone in check. We all loved him.
Max and Antonello were both very gracious and conscious about getting us all back in the ship on time. Max spoke great English (I rode with him), and he was able to share a lot of great insights about the italian culture and day to day life. |

Rudy's partner wheeled Michelle into Vatican Museum

Rudy's partner took us to have gelato sundaes near Piazza Navona
We highly recommend Rudy’s Private Rome Tours. We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary with trip to Rome before embarking on a Princess cruise of the Mediterranean. Michelle has trouble walking and George had abdominal surgery six weeks before our trip. On Tuesday afternoon Rudy had a driver in a suit meet us at the airport luggage area, load our luggage into a late model Mercedes-Benz sedan, and drive us to our hotel where Rudy met us with a wheelchair for Michelle to use during our tours. He introduced us to Fabio, who would be our driver and tour guide the rest of the week. Both studied art history in the USA and spoke excellent English. George picked up three reserved tickets at Santa Suzanna Church for Papal Audience on Wednesday and had three reserved tickets for the Vatican Museum. Fabio picked us up at 9:00 AM Wednesday, wheeled Michelle into the audience hall, and then returned to wheel her back to his M-B van after the audience. He took us to a delightful sidewalk café near the Vatican for lunch and then wheeled Michelle around the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica, explaining the history and significance of what we saw, before leaving us at the official Vatican gift shop to get the van for our return to our hotel. He pointed out sights of Rome to and from the Vatican. Thursday, Fabio gave us a tour of ancient and modern Rome, parking frequently to explain the sights. He wheeled Michelle into as many sights as possible and took us to a five star hotel near the Pantheon for a potty break. After a pizza lunch in a Campo Fioro sidewalk café he showed us the rest of Rome, including the Appian Way and the Basilica of St. John Lateran. Friday evening, Fabio gave us an evening tour around Rome to see all the sights lit up, stopping often for pictures and history lessons. Before taking us to our ship on Saturday afternoon, Fabio took us back to the Vatican shop where Michelle bought a beautiful gold mosaic of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, which would be blessed by the Pope and shipped to our home. We contacted many excellent tour services before selecting Rudy based on his personal service and reasonable rates. We could not have been more pleased with Rudy’s services. We paid Fabio with American Express Traveler’s Checks at the ship. Fabio was fabulous!

Rome with Rudy
My family and I went on a cruise in late June and were making stops in
3 ports in Italy. I had used Rudy many years ago (with a different company)and was happy to find out that Rudy had opened his own company. Without hesitation I emailed
Rudy and received a quick response. We had the pleasure of using Rudy's services for
all three ports and were very happy with Daniella in Florence, Rudy in Rome and Roberto in Naples. Rudy is top notch and so are all of his employees. They all are natives of the region and give you so much info that we really want to know, as opposed to the standard tours we have been on. The "guys" were all on time or early waiting for us with smiles on their faces. Aside from giving us a very informative tour, they recommended the best restaurants to eat, shops to find great wine and goodies and even helped us to make purchases when the language was a barrier. If you are looking for a top notch company that allows you to explore Italy in an air conditioned luxury cars at your own pace , and who treats you like family...Rudy is your person. My daughter is staying aboard for college in Rome and I know that I can rely on Rudy if I have any questions or concerns. I just wish Rudy would cover all of Europe not just Italy...

In August my fiancée and our 2 mothers both in their mid 60's used Rudy's services on multiple occasions. All of the vans that were used were in great condition and the drivers were fantastic. We first used them for our airport pickup at FCO Rome which worked out great because the luggage took almost 2 hours to get from the plane to the baggage claim and the driver Rudy sent was there waiting the whole time.
Next we went with Max who had a great sense of humor on a day tour of Tuscany. We visited Orvieto, then a small castle town, had lunch at a Tuscan winery which was my favorite meal in Italy and then went to Siena which was the only disappointing part of the trip. It was during the time they were getting ready for the horse race so the main campo was in race track mode, there were tons of tourists and it was blazing hot. We were told Siena is the best and I will definitely return during a fall visit.
Last we had Antonello drive us from Rome and besides being a great AS Roma fan he was the consumate professional. He took us to Pompeii where the guide Rudy arranged to tour the ancient city was really great and then to Positano for a nice meal and quick look around town. The tour of Pompeii was just the right amount of time given our mothers age and mobility issues though I could have stayed for a full day. In fact given the needs of our mothers all of the drivers were fantastic in getting right up to the attractions with the least amount of walking or difficult terrain. Finally Antonello dropped us and our luggage off at Castel Gandolfo.
The drivers were very knowledgeable and gave us great insight into Italian culture and some great ideas. We spent 11 days in Italy but it was Rudy's service that enabled us to taste 2 of Italy's most popular regions and do it in style.

we then headed to Siena,San Gimigiano and a Tuscan vineyard before being dropped back at the ship with plenty of time before the ship was due to sail.we had a fantastic day and because we teamed up with 2 other couples from the ship it cost us a lot less than the organised ships excursions and we saw a lot more.We used another company for our day in Rome but although they were good I wished we'd booked Rudy for both

We just returned from a two week trip to Europe which included a cruise through the Med and a couple of days in Rome before and after the cruise.
We found Rudy as he was mentioned in Cruise Critic and was highly rated on Trip Advisor - ALL WELL DESERVED!!
We entrusted four transfers and a full day of touring to Rudy - and it was stress free and effortless.
The driver (Francesca) was awaiting us at the terminal for transport to the hotel in a fairly new Mercedes Van. The next day a driver showed up (on time) to take us from Rome to Civitavecchia. Santino spoke a bit of English and was charming and professional.
Two weeks later, Antonio was at the Port awaiting for us to disembark - we were 15 minutes early and he was there. Antonio was fluent in English and was easy to listen to as he described life in Italy and the various neighborhoods we should visit. His best advice was "When you go to a restaurant, ask the waiter is there anything special today? Something that you would serve to your family if they walked in?" We used this line three times over the next two days with excellent results.
The real treat and reason for this review was the time we spent with Rudy on our personal full day tour of Rome. Rudy is personable, bright, witty and funny and provided us with insights into the history of Rome, the Vatican and the various areas we visited that far exceeded anything that we had ever experienced.
Rome is hot in August! Rudy made sure that we stayed in the air conditioned van while he explained what we were about to visit before venturing out into the 90+ heat of the day.
We covered many of the essential "must see" spots of Rome including the coliseum, Circolo Massimo, Catacombs, Ancient Apian Way (including a wonderful lunch in a shady garden) and Vatican City. His talks on the early ages of Rome, the cities and the roads and the conquests, the real story of the gladiators and the Christians, the city walls, the aqueducts, St Peters and on the frescoes of the Sistine Chapel were great as they covered the howls and whys of things. His discussion on the Sistine Chapel and its frescoes included information on how they need to be painted while the walls and ceiling were wet and the meanings and hidden meanings behind each of the frescoes even kept my 14 year old son engaged.
After eight plus hours with Rudy we were dropped off back at our hotel; smarter and more enlightened about the history of Rome in ancient times, the middle ages and of the present. Not to mention, pretty well fed and not too exhausted given what we saw in one day.
On Sunday, Santino arrived to take us to the airport - but there was a quick detour to stand on a street in Rome, look through a keyhole in a gate in Malta and see St Peters through the Keyhole.
Based upon the reviews in Trip Advisor, I put my whole trip in Rudy's hands and was incredibly and happily impressed!!
I am looking forward to our return to Rome for our tour of outlying areas with Rudy.

Finishing a great day with Danielli

Our happy group with Rudy after an amazing tour!
Rudy is the best, just like the other reviews said. He gave us a great tour of Rome and his associate, Danielli, was also awesome for Florence and Pisa. Both picked us up early in the port and the tour starts the moment you get in their vehicle. They are consumate professionals and will alter the tour in a moment, in you so desire. My group was a mixed group of 3 adults and 4 children aged 8 to 15. They did not talk over the kid's heads while also not "dumbing down" the tour for the adults. I particularly liked the time Rudy spent in advance of the Sistine Chapel explaning Michelangelo's work prior to our entering the room. He had my 4 kids riveted! Also, both Rudy and Danielli make sure they get you close to all the attractions, so walking is at a minimum.

After reading the reviews, we decided to contact a few of the guides listed here for a private tour of Rome instead of joining the cruise ship's tours. Rudy was the most responsive over email and answered all my questions promptly. His pricing was very reasonable so we decided to hire him for the day. Rudy was waiting at the terminal when we disembarked and we packed in lots of sights for the next 9 hours. Since it was hard to find parking, Rudy explained the background history and significance of the sights while we were on the way and then dropped us off at Palatine Hill, Colosseum, Pantheon and Trevi Fountain to explore on our own, which worked out very well since we could wander around at our own pace and not have to follow a group. Along the way he pointed out noteworthy sights. The seven passenger Mercedes minivan was new and clean and Rudy took us through very narrow streets with parked motorcycles and strolling pedestrians which was quite an eye opener. After a quick lunch we proceeded to the Vatican where Rudy led a guided tour through the Vatican museums, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Bascilica. He is very knowledgeable and explained various art pieces as we walked by which made the tour very enjoyable, a personal touch amidst the crowds. Upon request, we also visited the tombs below St. Peter's, in time to make it back to the ship before rush hour traffic. Rudy is personable and conversant, and we would definitely recommend Rudy's tour for anyone looking to see alot of sights in a limited amount of time.

Couldn't agree more with all the positive reviews here -- in fact, that was why we booked Rudy for a trip to Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast, and we were thoroughly pleased. Rudy is knowledgable, entertaining, and a great conversationalist or a quiet driver, depending on what you want (ie, if you all fall asleep in the car!). His driving, especially on the crazy roads in the Amalfi area, was impeccable. We really enjoyed our time with him -- he picked up our group of 6 at 7:30 in Rome, drove us to Positano and Sorrento, where we had a little time to be tourists, then to Pompeii. When my teenaged daughter NEEDED another half hour in Pompeii, he was more than graciously accommodating. All three generations in the car considered it a highlight of our two week trip. No question about it, if we return to Rome, we will look up Rudy for another excursion.

What a wonderful time we had!
We were planning a five day trip to Rome and I was looking for a private tour that would be able to take my family and my in-laws around Rome, as well as on a day trip to Florence. After reading the reviews on TripAdvisor.com, I contacted Rudy about what he could do for me. Since my In-Laws are not that mobile, I needed someone that would be able to show us around Rome and help us with getting into the sites. Rudy was able to help us out on all accounts.
Fabiio, one of Rudy's guides, drove us around Rome, as well as took us out to Florence and to Assisi. He did a wonderful job of pointing out all of the sites, and he has a great understanding of everything to see in Rome, as well as the history and art of the Eternal City. Fabio was very friendly and amicable, plus he took wonderful care of my In-Laws, driving them around while my wife, daughter and I would go inside a site that did not have easy access. When the site did have easy access, he would drive us right up to the entrance so that they would not need to walk too far to get in.
Fabio was fabulous!!! I can say that Fabio from Rudy's Touring Service made our trip to Rome perfect!

I have been on typical tours in Italy in the past, but this time I traveled with my daughter so I needed a UNIQUE guide to show us the high-lights as well as the off the beaten path sites. Usually the tours will bring you tp the typical, crowded tourist sites. We went there BUT did not have to wait in line. Rudy KNOWS everyone ! He can drive his car to places that other tours cannot go so you don't have to walk in the heat from where the bus drops you off. He is EDUCATED knowledgable, speaks great English, knows where the best coffee house, gelato places are, and tell you the HISTORY behind the art and the neighborhoods. You get a PERSONAL TOUCH and a trip you will never forget. Trust me, RUDY IS YOUR MAN !!!! My 8 year daughter loved him, he was able to make her interested as well with all the detail there is to know about Rome. Some places I had already been so I just slided the door open from the very clean and kept on going. It was so easy. We stopped on a dime when I saw something intersting, he just pulls over and ACCOMODATES your every wish. He is a WARM, FRIENDLY & TRUSTWORTHLY - Thank you Rudy !!!

I arranged with Rudy the day tour of my dreams! He was absolutely smashing throughout!!! Together we travelled from Rome to Sutri, Toscana, Tarquinia, Viterbo, and Bomarzo. He was very knowledgeable about the Etruscans and was exceedingly informative as we visited the Arena at Sutri, the Cathedral at Toscana (and an amazing gem of an Etruscan museum), the unparalleled Etruscan museum in Tarquinia, and the graceful medieval town (once Etruscan) of Viterbo. His range of knowledge was quite impressive, and he was very gracious, gallant, and supportive. As the "cherry on top" treat, he agreed to drive me to the Park of Monsters in Bomarzo, which I had always dreamt of visiting but felt I could not due to travel difficulties. It was as amazing as I had hoped (and deserted, which was lovely!) and he talked historically about the park and gave personal reminiscences, as he visited it as a child. All those sculptural monsters must have made an impression on a small boy as they did me! All in all, he exceeded expectations in all respects, and I cannot wait to return to join him on other Roman/Lazian adventures!!! I will remember this trip always. I highly recommend him to anyone who wishes to have a private guide for the standard sites in the area of Rome and for these lesser-known treats which I long to visit every time I return. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Rudy! |

As the previous review by marimart stated this 8 hr. +/- tour of Rome was excellent. The van was clean and comfortable. The driver was very knowledgeable and articulate. His english was clear. We were on the same tour with marimart and consider the day's tour money well spent.

April2,2009 Rudy's tours
Ruby picked up group at hotel on time in a new Mercedes-Benz van (very clean)...Rudy began all day tour by introducing Roma with a bit of a history lesson which was wonderful...Rudy's English is very good and he can be heard all over the van .. Morning was spent touring the old runes of Rome, the coliseum, wedding cake,Spanish steps, trivia fountain and much more Rudy's arts background was great as he pointed out many works of art ..the fact he is a private tour guide and driver gives him a lot of advantages in getting into many narrow streets in Rome were tour buses can not go .. Ruby suggested several places for lunch before taking group to the Vatican were he parked his van and began a private tour of the museum and the Sistine chapel...he was tour guide rather than having to pay extra for one that is a guide only for the Vatican and his art knowledge and general knowledge of the sites was wonderful...On completion of the tour traveled to the front of the Vatican for picture taking and then back to hotel..Without having a great guide and driver like Rudy never would have seen Rome in the short time which had there. Would highly recommend Rudy to anyone who goes to Rome and wants to see it all in a short time. Are looking forward to return so can enjoy Italy again..Thanks Rudy for helping to make holiday a great experience... My daughter and I met in Italy over her college Spring Break. We only had short time to visit everything we wanted to see within Italy. Our visit to Rome was limited but with Rudy we saw everything there was to see and got an excellent history of it all!
Rudy could go so close to all the historical monuments, knew the area inside out and gave us just the right amount of time at each location. He told us he was working to make our vacation wonderful, and he indeed did so.
We would highly recommend Rudy to anyone visiting Italy and we indeed wish there was a 'Rudy' in all the countries we visited!

We had the pleasure of having Rudy take us from Rome to Fornelli for the day where we visited relatives. Rudy was extremely professional and very accomodating. He picked us up at our Rome hotel and headed south to Fornelli, a 2 1/2 hour drive. Along the way he pointed out many sites and helped us to pick up some gifts en route. While in Fornelli he very willingly provided interpretation services throughout the entire day.
We had a wonderful time visiting 3 homes, having lunch, desserts and drinks with our relatives and Rudy's help made it all possible and extremely enjoyable for us. He seemed to enjoy the day also. We then returned to Rome at about 8pm that night after a great day.
Our experience with Rudy was just exceptional. He is pleasant, professional, an excellent driver and a delight to be with. His Mercedes vehicle is clean and comfortable and his fees are very fair and reasonable. We would highly recommend him and his company without reservation.

Thanks to Rudy we had a wonderful time in Rome. The day we were in Rome was the day that the licensing change had occurred and throughout Rome there were demonstrations and blockades to the sites. We never would have known! We heard tales from other passengers on the cruise ship of their difficulties and inability to see some sites, but not us. Thanks to Rudy and his staff made it possible for us to see all of the sites on our list. Rudy and his staff's professionalism, customer service and incredible knowledge of Rome's history was only surpassed by the passion to share it. It is without reservation that we recommend his service and we look forward to seeing him again on our next trip to Italy!
Sincerely,
David and Catherine

I can highly recommend Rudy as a Tour Guide in Rome. We stayed in the centre of Rome for three nights and Rudy took us on a day trip of Rome and it was FANTASTIC! He is a very friendly, likeable person with a great knowledge of the city. On the second day we had a day tour of the Vatican with Rudy's colleague, Luca. He is also very knowledgeable and a very friendly and likeable person.
I am a not a very trusting person so was very wary of going on a tour with someone I did not know but I had nothing to worry about, as both guides are wonderful, genuine people. The people carriers (cars) they use are new and very comfortable. Rudy took us to all the attractions, we jumped out of the people carrier (car), saw the attraction, he told us all we needed to know and then we got back in the car again to go to the next attraction. We did not have to walk much at all which was good because three of us have walking difficulties.
The Vatican tour was also excellent but there was a lot of walking that day. I think we should have booked less time at the Vatican due to our mobility issues (my fault) although if you can walk the day trip is well worth doing and will teach you so much about the history of the Vatican City. Luca is very knowledgeable.
If you go to Rome you definitely need a tour guide so that you don't waste precious time deciding where to go and how to get there. With a private tour you get to see EVERYTHING you want to see as the tours can be catered to your individual needs/requirements. Rudy and Luca are excellent guides and come highly recommended. I can assure you that you will not regret choosing them to take you on a tour (their contact is: rudy@rome-car-tours.com
If you have any questions about the tours or this review, please contact me.

Our cruise ship was many hours late arriving and we were afraid we had missed our tour. Bless him, Rudy was still waiting for us. Although our tour was shortened because of our delay, we feel we had a more wonderful tour than had we taken an all-day bus tour, and at a most reasonable price . Rudy is very knowledgeable on the history of Rome and made sure we saw the most important sites. He made our 50th wedding anniversary memorable. Thank you Rudy...You are most highly recommended.

My husband, 11 year old daughter and I just returned from a week long Mediterranean cruise on the RCCL Voyager of the Seas. Since we only had one day in Rome we wanted to see everything we could. We booked a private tour with Rudy at Rome Car Tours (http://www.rome-car-tours.com or rudy@rome-car-tours.com) and couldn't have been more pleased. Rudy is amazing in his knowledge of history and art and made everything come alive . . . especially for our 11 year old daughter who, thanks to Rudy, is anxious to return to Rome out of all of the ports we visited! He is one of the few licensed driver/guides in Rome which means you only pay once (not for a driver and a guide). Licensed guides have to pass a test about their knowledge and language skills and I am sure Rudy aced his test. If you read his website he is very well qualified to be a guide (and a driver in that crazy Rome traffic)! We saw the Circus Maximus, Colisseum, Pantheon, Vatican City, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Catecombs and a whole lot more. We ate a wonderful lunch in a piazza where the "regulars" eat -- but only after he gave us the history of all of the buildings in the piazza so that we could wonder about what had happened there while lunching on our pasta carbonara and gelato! We took another tour in Naples (Pompeii and Amalfi Coast )with a private driver and while we very much enjoyed the trip, he was not nearly as informative as Rudy. Riding in his van is like taking a college class with your most favorite professor in a day! I believe his rates are competitive if not slightly cheaper than other private tours I considered. Go with Rudy and you will not be disappointed. |

I apologize for being so tardy in writing you a note to
let you know what a fantastic time Scott and I had in Rome
and then in Sorrento the end of April.
Rudy was delightful! Not only was his
knowledge of the history impressive, he was courteous,
professional and very pleasant throughout the two days
we had the privilege of his company. Rome is such a large
city with so much history that we would have missed many
things and places without Rudy’s excellent knowledge
of the city and history. Also, neither Scott nor I would
want to drive in Rome! Then, the next day, on to Sorrento.
What a beautiful place and Rudy made lunch arrangements,
and I had a fantastic “birthday” lunch. We
were treated like royalty. Then Positana was so beautiful
and unique. Please extend our thanks again to Rudy for
helping make our trip so memorable.
I recommended your service to our travel
agent, and he plans to recommend you to his clients traveling
to Rome. We’ll definitely call you on our next trip
to Roma!
Best regards,
Barbara Zimmerman

For those who will be travelling to Rome: Rudy is a learned
individual. He gave us in depth look of Rome, ita history
and its culture (in a chronological order). This is one
guy who's passionate about his work. He's also friendly,
courteous and has a very positive attitude attributes you
will soon come to appreciate while in Rome. Tip about tips:
Be very generous to your guide. It,s all worth it. During
our stay we were able to see a lot Rome, Pisa and Florence.
We all had a great time.
